NCM Insurance Agency Takes “Rookie of the Year” Award

By: Bobbie Jo Lee, Customer Service Representative

NCM Insurance Agency Rookie of the Year Award

Shocked, surprised, overwhelmed and totally proud would be a great way to describe how NCM Insurance Agent, Adam Boca felt on the evening of American Modern Insurance Group’s annual Power of Partnership Awards Banquet. Held in Cincinnati, Ohio on June, 14, 2012, the event hosted the top movers and shakers for American Modern Insurance Group, and the NCM Insurance Agency was invited to be a part of the festivities.

Unaware of any award to be presented, Adam was invited to dine for the evening at a reserved table consisting of owners, presidents and CEO’s of not only American Modern Insurance Group, but top executives in the business world. “I knew something special was happening when I was asked to take a seat among these special industry icons,” Adam shared when he returned to the NCM.

During the evening’s festivities it became pretty obvious to Adam that the seating arrangement had a special purpose. The announcement began by naming some very unique accomplishments of the NCM Insurance Agency:

  • New agency that started up in mid-year 2009.
  • Building all new business, one customer at a time.
  • After only two calendar years of “in full swing” business – already a top 5 new business producer of American Modern’s collector vehicle premium nationally.
  • Average premium is close to twice AMIG’s company average.
  • Nearly 100% growth rate in 2011.
  • Consistently profitable, YTD Loss Ratio of just 9%.
  • Located inside the National Corvette Museum.

Adam and the NCM Insurance Agency were presented at the kick off of the ceremony with the “Rookie of the Year” Award in honor of the hard work and achievements of the agency by Michael Whitehead, Vice President of Agency Operations at American Modern Insurance Group.  If you ask Adam how he feels about the award, he will humbly admit that “we could not do it without the support and dedication of the hard working team at American Modern Insurance Group” – underwriters for the National Corvette Museum’s Insurance Program. “We have amazing customers that we are honored to serve, an awesome team of agents and staff at American Modern and the best job at the National Corvette Museum. We look forward to continuing to serve to the best of our ability and hope to meet and talk with other collector car owners as word continues to spread about the NCM Insurance Agency.”

Disaster Relocation Reimbursement for NCM Insurance Customers

Holt Davis - Wild Fire Totals Collector Cars

We have been speaking with several of our friends in Colorado and New Mexico today who have collector cars protected through the National Corvette Museum’s Insurance Program. Our thoughts go out to residents in Colorado and New Mexico, as wildfires are within close proximity of damaging and destroying their homes and property. Although we are unable to increase coverage or lower deductibles on existing policies – we do have a plan in place to help make this stressful time a bit more manageable with regards to their prized collector cars.

For NCM Insurance customers who are in the path of these fierce wildfires, we have made available relocation expense reimbursement that provides reimbursement for 50% of the temporary relocation costs when moving NCM Insured collector cars to a safer location, subject to a maximum of $200 per collector car and $2,500 per policy.

Holt Davis - C3 Corvette Damaged by Wild Fire

Our top priority is offering personal attention to the needs of our customers – in all situations – good and bad. We hope you will let us take a hand in helping if you are insured in either of these disaster areas – after all, that is our job. We don’t just talk about what we can do – we make it happen. NCM Member Holt Davis was attending an event at the Museum in April of 2011, when he was notified that a wildfire started near his house causing severe damage to some of his collectible cars. “I was extremely pleased with the way the claim was handled by Adam and the NCM Insurance Program,” Holt shared with us on his trip back to the Museum in September. “I received a full check via Fed-Ex following the claim and could not have asked for any better process.” View a snapshot of Holt’s story via video on location at the National Corvette Museum here: http://www.ncminsurance.com/wildfire-claims-2-corvette-see-how-it-was-handled.html

A Truly Hot Car – More Than One in 10 Stolen Over Past 30 Years

Recently the National Insurance Crime Bureau came to visit the National Corvette Museum, check out this informative press release and Hot Wheels Classics report video spotlighting Corvette’s target rate from NICB (the National Insurance Crime Bureau). The Corvette Museum was featured with some “on camera” time  spot lighting a 1965 Corvette Sting Ray that was stolen in Nashville and recovered 39 years later. Adam Boca – NCM Insurance Agent speaks on behalf of the Museum in the video and showcases this amazing car on display in the NCM Skydome. The Museum also provided important historical information courtesy of our Library and Archives. Read more here:

Hot Wheels Classics: Chevrolet Corvette

A Truly Hot Car – More Than One in 10 Stolen Over Past 30 Years

DES PLAINES, Ill., May 14, 2012 – Although racing purists might recognize the Stutz Bearcat or the Mercer Raceabout as America’s first sports cars, there is no question that the Chevrolet Corvette holds the title as America’s oldest, continuously produced sports car.

In this, NICB’s second Hot Wheels Classics report, we look at how the Corvette has fared as a theft target. For a video report on Corvette thefts, see below:

A Little Corvette History

The public saw the Corvette for the first time in January 1953, at the Motorama Show held at New York City’s Waldorf Astoria hotel. It went into full production on June 30, 1953, at the General Motors facility in Flint, Mich. By the end of the year, 300 were produced—all of them white convertibles with red interiors and black soft tops. The price tag was $3,498 with a heater and AM radio as the only options.

In 1954, Corvette production moved to a renovated facility in St. Louis, Mo., where it remained until 1981. That year, Corvette production moved into a new assembly facility at Bowling Green, Ky., where Corvettes continue to roll off the line today.

The first-generation Corvette—C1s as they are known—were manufactured from 1953-1962. Successive generations appeared in 1963 (C2); 1968 (C3); 1984 (C4); 1997 (C5); and in 2005 with the C6. A seventh-generation Corvette is expected sometime next year.

At the 1978 Indianapolis 500 Mile Race, Corvette made the first of its 10 appearances as the official Indy 500 Pace Car, an unmatched record on two counts—most appearances as a pace car and most consecutive years pacing the field (2004-2008).

Often compared to more exotic European sports cars, the Corvette has performed well in racing circuits around the globe. However, with the introduction of the supercharged, 620hp ZR-1 in 2009, Corvette has convinced its few remaining skeptics that it can perform on the world racing stage, as well as (and mostly better than) cars three times its price tag.

It’s no surprise then to find Corvette owners doting over their cars and keeping them in showroom condition. But like other items of high value and popular attraction, they get stolen. NICB reviewed Corvette theft data from 1953-2011 and identified 134,731 theft records. However, since the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration required vehicle identification number (VIN) standardization beginning with the 1981 model year, confidence in pre-1981 records is low due to the inconsistency in reporting protocols and VIN systems. Consequently, only 1981 and later data was used to produce this report.

Thefts vs. Production

During the 30-year period from 1981-2011, a total of 90,427 Corvettes were reported stolen in the United States and Puerto Rico. During that same period, a total of 862,918 Corvettes were produced in the United States. However, from 1953 through the end of the 2011 model year, a total of 1,526,747 Corvettes have been produced. The year with the most U.S. production was 1984 with 51,547. The year with the fewest Corvettes produced was 1953 when just 300 units were built.*

The following graph shows the 10 most stolen Corvette model years for the period 1981-2011.

As for the top 10 states where most thefts occurred, California leads the nation with 14,002. Of the overall total, 90,427 thefts, 63,409 of them—70 percent—occurred in the top 10 states.

The complete Corvette theft data tables are available here.

At NICB, we have been in the business of identifying and recovering stolen vehicles since 1912. Our expertise has been sought by law enforcement agencies all over the nation to assist with major auto theft investigations. Frequently, NICB recovers stolen vehicles that have long since been forgotten—except by their owners.

Whether or not you own a classic 1963 split-window or a 2012 Centennial Edition ZR-1 Corvette, take steps to protect your vehicle from theft. Although vehicle thefts have been declining in recent years, if it happens to you it can be financially devastating and just an all-around hassle. NICB urges motorists to follow its “layered approach” to auto theft prevention. By employing these simple, low-cost suggestions, people can make their vehicles less attractive to thieves.

Anyone with information concerning vehicle theft and insurance fraud can report it anonymously by calling toll-free 1-800-TEL-NICB (1-800-835-6422), texting keyword “fraud” to TIP411 (847411) or by visiting our website at www.nicb.org. Or, iPhone or iPad users can download the NICB Fraud Tips app to make it easy to quickly send a tip and get a response.

The NICB is supported by more than 1,100 property and casualty insurance companies and self-insured organizations. NICB member companies wrote over $339 billion in insurance premiums in 2011, or approximately 80 percent of the nation’s property/casualty insurance. That includes more than 94 percent ($156 billion) of the nation’s personal auto insurance. To learn more visit www.nicb.org.

Corvette Introduces the 60th Anniversary plus the 427 Collectors Edition!

2013 Corvette 427 Convertible

Today Chevrolet announced two new special edition Corvettes to round out the production of the C6 Corvette. The two models that have been unveiled are the 60th Anniversary Edition and the fastest Corvette convertible produced, the 427 Convertible Collectors Edition.

“The 2013 model year will be historic for Corvette, marking its 60th Anniversary and the final year for the current ‘C6’ generation,” said Chris Perry, vice president, Global Marketing and Strategy for Chevrolet. “We couldn’t think of a more fitting way to celebrate these milestones than bringing back one of the most-coveted combinations in the brand’s history – the Corvette convertible and a 427 cubic-inch engine.”

Corvette 427 Convertible Collector Edition

The Corvette 427 Convertible blends elements of the Z06 and ZR1 models to create the fastest and most-capable convertible in Corvette’s history.

Its heart is the 427-cubic-inch (7.0L) LS7 engine from the Corvette Z06. Rated at 505
horsepower (377 kW) and 470 lb.-ft. of torque (637 Nm), it is the most powerful engine ever installed in a production Corvette convertible – and, like the Z06, the 427 Convertible is only available with a six-speed manual transmission.

The LS7 was co-developed with the Corvette Le Mans-winning GT1 engine and features
lightweight titanium connecting rods and intake valves, as well as racing-inspired high-flow cylinder heads and a dry-sump oiling system. It is assembled by hand at GM’s Performance Build Center, where customers who purchase the 427 Convertible Collector Edition can purchase the Corvette Build Experience option and assemble the engine that will power their new car.

Supporting performance elements in the Corvette 427 Convertible include the driveline and rear axle system from the Corvette Z06, a rear-mounted battery and standard Magnetic Selective Ride Control. The standard 19-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels are wrapped in ZR1-style Michelin PS2 tires. Lightweight machine-face Cup wheels – introduced on the 2012 Corvette Z06 with Z07 and Corvette ZR1 with PDE performance packages – come standard and include unique gray-painted pockets. Black Cup wheels or chrome ZR1-style wheels are also available.

The 427 Convertible also features several carbon-fiber components that help reduce weight, including:

  • Carbon fiber raised hood (introduced on the 2011 Z06 Carbon Edition)
  • Carbon fiber Z06-style fenders
  • Carbon fiber floor panels
  • The “CFZ” carbon fiber front splitter and rocker panels are optional on the 427 Convertible, and included with the 60th Anniversary package

The weight reduction brings the 427 Convertible’s curb weight to 3,355 pounds (1,522 kg). Combined with its 505-horsepower LS7 engine, it gives the 427 Convertible a power-to-weight ratio of 6.64 – or one horsepower for every 6.64 pounds of vehicle mass.

That’s better than:

  • Porsche 911 Turbo S Cabriolet – 6.90
  • Audi R8 5.2 RSI Spyder – 7.58
  • Aston Martin DBS Volante Convertible – 7.82
  • Ferrari California Convertible – 8.31

The combination of low mass and high output will make the 427 Convertible one of the fastest convertibles in the world, delivering estimated 0-60 performance of 3.8 seconds, quarter-mile performance of 11.8 seconds, lateral acceleration of 1.04 g and a top speed of more than 190mph.

The 427 Convertible is available in 2LT, 3LT and 4LT trim levels and will carry a unique vehicle identification number sequence, similar to the Corvette ZR1.

Corvette 60th Anniversary Package

All 2013 Corvette models, including the 427 Convertible, will be available with a 60th
Anniversary Package, featuring an Arctic White exterior with a Blue Diamond leather-wrapped interior with suede accents. Convertible models will have a blue top.

Additional content includes a ZR1-style rear spoiler, special badging, gray-painted brake calipers and the “60th” logo on the wheel center caps, steering wheel and seat headrests. An optional graphics package adds full-length racing stripes in Pearl Silver Blue, including a tonal stripe stitched into the convertible top, extending the graphic theme over the roof.

For 2013, all Corvettes will feature 60th Anniversary badges on the fascias and the “waterfall” panel on convertible models, as well as 60th logos in the instrument panel gauge cluster and on the sill plates.

Chevrolet will be auctioning off the first Corvette 427 Convertible at Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale collector car auction with proceeds going to AARP’s Drive to End Hunger initiative on January 21st.

Chevrolet said that both cars will be available late summer when the 2013 Corvettes start production.  We hope to have both models at the annual NCM Bash at the National Corvette Museum in April.
