NCM Insurance NOW in New York!

Just over 10 years ago the National Corvette Museum launched the NCM Insurance Agency. Over the last 10 years we have grown substantially, but we have not been able to offer coverage to residents in the great state of New York. We have been asked countless times “When?” and we have not had a clear answer…. Until now!

What a Fun Month for Corvettes and Collector Cars!

This month we have been on a marathon mission!  The NCM Insurance Agency has been at 5 shows over the last month meeting many new faces and seeing many of our current friends/customers.  The month of May has been a car person’s month.

The National Corvette Museum hosted the annual C5/C6 Bash bringing over 1,000 people into Bowling Green.  This event draws folks in from all over the world to celebrate the creation of the C5 (1997-2004) and C6 (2005-Current) Corvettes.  Many of GM’s top Corvette engineers, designers, marketers, etc come to this event along with racing drivers and team members from Corvette Racing.  We host a ton of road tours to various scenic destinations from bourbon distilleries to wineries and manufacturers of great homemade artisan cheeses.  We ended the event with the Margaritaville Banquet in the National Corvette Museum’s conference center.  This is an event that should not be missed!

The next weekend we attended the National Street Rod Association South East event in Knoxville, TN.  I am used to Corvette events, but if you are a car person you need to add this to your bucket list!  Some of the finest street rods in the country along with some of the top vendors of rodding goodies were in attendance.  We had the pleasure of meeting all new faces at this event, and we hope that we were able to educate folks about what we have to offer.  Check out our facebook page for photos of the event.  We will also be attending the NSRA Nationals in Louisville, KY this August!  Look for us there!

The following weekend we were home at the C4 Gathering here at the National Corvette Museum.  This is a great event that really caters to the lovers of the C4 Corvette (1984-1996).  This event draws a large number of ZR-1 and Grand Sport Enthusiasts.  We had an outstanding display of modified ZR-1’s including 3 Lingenfelter cars, 2 of which have the rare body package.  We had a great looking twin turbo ZR-1 along with a rare 1986 prototype ZR-1!  This year also marked the 15th anniversary of the 1996 Grand Sport with the LT4 engine.  We had two 1996 Grand Sports, a 1963 Grand Sport replica, and a new Grand Sport on display.  This event is getting better and better each year!

A couple of weekends later we found ourselves in the great state of Texas.  We attended the Lone Star Corvette Classic at Texas Motor Speedway.  The Lone Star Corvette Club (largest single club in the US) puts on a great show!  We began at the Marriott hotel in Fort Worth with registration and with some of the vendors who were setup.  Friday evening was mix and mingle with participants and vendors, sample the taco bar and then NCM Insurance Agency proudly sponsored the dessert table.  Saturday started bright and early at Texas Motor Speedway under the grandstands where we set up our insurance display, and we also brought the Corvette Store to Dallas.  We had a great turn out and saw some amazing Corvettes!  The Lone Star Corvette Club has been an outstanding supporter of the National Corvette Museum, and they also were the first club to purchase Car Club Liability and Directors and Officers coverage from us.  We appreciate all that this club does for us!

As I type this we are in our 2nd day of the Corvette Forum Cruise In.  This event holds a special place in my heart as it was an event I helped create back in October of 1999.  Because of this event and Corvette Forum I have many friendships that I truly cherish.  I met my lovely wife, Kelly, through the Corvette Forum as well!  This year was a special year as we also hosted  80 Wounded Warriors from Fort Campbell and Fort Knox.  The participants of the Corvette Forum Cruise In drove to each military base and picked up a solider that is part of the Wounded Warriors program.  These soldiers were lead by the Kentucky State Police back to the National Corvette Museum where they were treated to a BBQ lunch, and guided tours of the National Corvette Museum and the Corvette Assembly Plant.  They wrapped up the day with whoopie pies (from the Corvette Café), brownies and a great goodie back pack donated by Mobil 1. This was a great way to start our Memorial Day weekend, by recognizing and honoring those who protect our freedom!

As you can see the month has been jammed pack full of activities.  We are looking forward to a couple weekends at home, then we are back on the road to the Ault Park Concours d’Elegance in Cincinnati, OH.  We hope to see you at an event near you sometime soon!

NCM Insurance Welcome’s Ginnie Ashley to the Team!

NCM Insurance is pleased to announce the addition of our newest agent, Ginnie Ashley.  Ginnie comes to us with 6+ years of insurance experience, and from a family of car lovers!

Ginnie is excited to join our team and says, “I am excited to be part of a growing organization focusing in collector vehicle insurance.  Everyone I have met loves working for the NCM, and I love the team atmosphere. I am grateful for the opportunity to transition into a long-term career in such an exciting facility. “

Buying a Mid-Engine Corvette? Better Check Insurance!

With every new generation Corvette comes an unmatched excitement and anticipation for what GM has designed. This generation, the 8th, could be argued to be the most anticipated CAR (not just Corvette) to date. If you live off the grid, deep in the woods, with no communication to the outside world and you haven’t heard or seen… Yes, the C8 will be the first production mid-engine Corvette from GM. Rumors started swirling around early in 2019 that 2020 will be the year GM finally switches to the mid-engine and since the unveiling, on 07.18.19, the Corvette world has been left drooling. So much so, it even picked up MotorTrend Car of the Year, 2020 NACTOY, MotorWeek Best Performance car of 2020 and Best of the Year.  We are sure many more awards are to come!

Daily Use Declarations Pages

One of the items needed to start a policy is the Declarations of Coverage Pages. These are for the vehicle(s) that you and members of your household drive every day.

We are often asked “why do you need these?” Well, we are required to obtain a copy per our carrier. It list important information like:

  • That you own daily use vehicles.
  • Effective dates.
  • Policy Coverage’s.
  • Who else is covered on the policy.

We are required to show the carrier that you and other members of the household have daily use vehicle(s) that are currently insured, that the vehicle(s) that we are going to insure are not intended for daily use and lastly, not to exceed liability coverage on your standard auto policy.

We love ALL Collector Cars!

My relationship with NCM Insurance began in June of 2019 when my previous insurance company let me down. I purchased a new McLaren 600LT that they would not insure – AFTER providing me a quote for said McLaren. My previous Insurance Company told me that it was in error, and there was nothing that they could do. I needed to shop for a new insurance company and fast! After contacting several insurance companies and obtaining  quotes, I found the NCM Insurance Agency to be competitively priced and easy to work with.

They have Excellent customer service and competitive pricing for customized insurance,  to cover all of our weekend collectibles. They are very accommodating and friendly.

I think people should know that The NCM Insurance Agency offers insurance to non-Corvette owners as well, and is still competitive. The agreed value policy allows me to adjust coverage on my policy as the value changes (up or down)  saving me money. They did an excellent job putting this all together, and did it quite quickly!

CALL THEM. They are not high pressure, if its not a fit – you won’t spend all day just trying to find that out. Chances are, they can help you too! I was worried at first, because none of my cars are (currently) Corvettes , but they still offered me the best coverage and insurance package for the three weekend collectibles we own and use for pleasure.

Customer Spotlight – Fiery Claim Turned Positive!

I am writing to express my appreciation for the NCM Insurance Agency. I have (had) a 2008 Z06 Corvette that was highly modified with RWHP at more than 1,300 – yet comfortable to drive. I had spent a great deal of money putting together this show car that had under 20,000 miles on it when the following occurred:

My car caught fire with me in it!  Not 100% sure of the cause, but I believe it was the alternator that caught fire. Long story short, I was able to coast to a stop while the flames were growing out of control, and the cabin was uninhabitable. I was not able to do anything but stand by as I watched my special car burn to the ground despite the efforts of the local fire department. Needless to say – it was a total loss.

While a devastating loss, as you car guys and gals can fully understand, a positive claims response is key. The NCM Insurance Agency and American Modern Insurance Company responded compassionately, and quickly and paid the Agreed Value amount which escalated annually at 4.00%. They did not raise any concerns or express any doubt of anything reported. They just took care of the situation.

Bottom line to me was that while a terrible experience had happened, NCM Insurance responded with an AAAA++++ performance and I highly recommend them for insuring your special cars.

A sincere thank you, and this NCM member is truly appreciative of this special entity and the role they play in the enjoyment of our special cars.

Customer Spotlight – Marty Pinder “What a different experience…..”

I have owned collector cars since the 1980s and have used most every collector insurance company that is out there today. Having never had a claim, thank goodness, I only had two ways of evaluating a collector car insurance agency. Price is certainly important, but I have learned not to simply buy on price. The second, and actually the most important thing to evaluate is a bit more complex. That somewhat more subjective thing is service.

Everyone says that they have good service, however I have come to learn that maybe my threshold for good service is somewhat higher than some in what I find acceptable. I learned this first hand a few year ago when I was insured through another company for my collector cars.

I once owned a 1996 Impala Super Sport (yes, the black menacing looking one) and I loved that car. It was one of a very few cars I kept for over 100,000 miles. A few years ago, I decided I wanted another one and found a very low mile perfect example. I bought it and called my collector car insurance company to add it to the policy. The “underwriter” came back and told me that they would not insure a ‘96 Caprice. I politely stated that an Impala SS is certainly very different from a Caprice. I was told that it was no different based upon the VIN. They finally and begrudgingly agreed to add the car, again balking at its stated value, but did it based on our relationship. Well, by now we clearly had differing views on our ‘relationship.’

The next day I phoned the NCM Insurance Agency. Bobbie Jo was the first person I spoke with at NCM. Well, what a difference from the “how can I not help you” person from the other company. Friendly. Knowledgeable. Simply said, a competent person who made me feel that my insurance needs were important to her, too! What a change that was!

Oh, and yes, she immediately and intuitively knew than an Impala SS was different from a Caprice. I completed the paperwork that night, became a customer of NCM Insurance the very next day, and have never looked back! I should add that my premium also went down from what I had been paying. Better, friendlier service, and I was saving money.

As a customer for a few years now I can unequivocally say I have no plans of ever going to another agency, ever! Anytime I need to change a car or have a question, everyone I speak with is helpful, efficient and friendly.

If you own a collector car and are not currently insured through the NCM, I strongly urge each of you to call Adam, Bobbie-Jo, Sharon, or Sam, and discuss your needs with them. I am confident that you will experience the same level of exceptional service that I receive each and every time.

Tropical Storm Barry – Relocation Reimbursement

Tropical Storm Barry is still developing, but we want to get ahead of the curve and chaos! This email is going out to ALL customers in Louisiana, regardless if you are in the path or not.

For NCM Insurance customers who are in the path of this storm, our carrier has made available a relocation expense reimbursement that provides reimbursement for 50% of the temporary relocation costs when moving NCM Insurance protected collector cars to a safer location, subject to a maximum of $200 per collector car and $2,500 per policy. Customers with Claims regarding reimbursement should call (800) 543-2644 or you can submit a claim online at https://www.amig.com/customer/file-a-claim/. Please retain all invoices, receipts and incurred costs with regards to any damage.

If you are unable to relocate your vehicle(s), please take the following steps to insure the vehicle is as prepared as possible:

  • Take before photos of your vehicle to show the condition before a disaster strikes.
  • Store copies of the registration and insurance documentation in a safe place.
  • Place your vehicle(s) on jack stands as high as possible to raise it off of the ground.

10 Years! Where has time gone?!?

It is hard to believe that 10 years ago was the start of the NCM Insurance Agency.  It has been an amazing ride, with MANY MANY ups, and of course, very few downs. 

Over the last 10 years we have insured THOUSANDS, yes THOUSANDS of customers with some amazing vehicles, and it has been an honor!

We are asked quite frequently how we came to be, and we hope you will follow along.

Our management team at the National Corvette Museum was approached by a larger insurance agency about feeding leads (customers) to them.  In return we would obtain a small finder’s fee.  This small seed is what started us down this path.  Wendell Strode, Museum Executive Director, felt that instead of getting a small finder’s fee it would be beneficial to start our own insurance agency.

I was tasked with the job and embraced it as if it was my own.  Starting with completing the proper credentialing in not only Kentucky, but the other 42 states that we service.  This was not an easy task, but I was up for the challenge. 

We started off with a clean slate, policy zero.  No insurance background what-so-ever, however, because of the relationships we had with our members/donors we felt like it was a natural step for us to take. 

I will never forget day 1 that we made the announcement.  Calls didn’t stop!  I still have the yellow legal pad with the HUNDREDS of names and phone #’s.  We were not prepared, I should say I WAS NOT PREPARED!  I was the only agent that we had, I was the CSR, I was it!  I quickly put a call in to our carrier and asked for help, STAT!  American Modern sent down two to help with the phone and processing quotes/policies.  They were coming in quicker than we could handle!

Over the course of the next couple years we would continue to fine tune the process to make the journey for our customers easy and help provide the best possible experience for our customers.

Part of the “best possible experience” was to hire a Customer Service Rep.  In April of 2012 I was able to bring Bobbie Jo Lee back into the NCM.  She had ventured away to follow her husband, Darrell, as they embarked on a new career which took them to Arizona.  A short time after they left, they found themselves back in Bowling Green, and I knew that she would be perfect for this position.    Perfect she was!  She has this inherent sense of compassion that makes people feel at ease.  Within a year she moved from a CSR to an agent, and we have never looked back! 

We plugged away for the next couple of years continuing to hone the process.  We were quickly becoming one of the top agencies for our carrier.  Calls were not slowing down, and because of this, we were servicing more and more customers.  Because of this, our customers were waiting on hold, our responses were short, and our quality was suffering.  It was time to hire and move from our small 11×14 office to a legitimate office, what I have dubbed the “NCM Insurance Agency WORLD Headquarters!” 

With the blessing of our management we were fortunate to move into the lobby of the National Corvette Museum and build an amazing storefront!  We also were able to hire Jeff Forsythe and Sharon Smith.  Jeff was freshly retired from the police department in Sheridan, Wyoming and Sharon was in banking.

Sharon and her husband were customers from 2011, and local to Bowling Green.  I attended church with her, and both Chris and Sharon taught Sunday School to my daughter, Gracelyn.  While at a local Cars & Coffee one morning I mentioned that we were looking for a CSR and Chris’s ears perked up.  Sharon is the one that makes sure that our i’s are dotted, and t’s are crossed.  Sharon is now a licensed Agent and she keeps us compliant and consistent!  We really need this!

Jeff is a car guy, passionate about talking cars to customers.  He wasn’t too sure about this insurance role, but did a great job working with our customers.  Eventually, another position opened in our security department and he moved to that.  We then hired Sam Milam.

Sam had a couple years in the insurance industry and provided some great insight into the standard auto world to our customers.  He is super cool under pressure, and nothing seems to faze him!  We are thoroughly enjoying watching him go from engaged to married to his wife, Jasmine, and he is about to be a dad to little girl.  We love seeing our team and their families grow!

This team is amazing!  They are rock stars!  They hear your stories about your cars, they  hear why your car is important to you…They have heard the memories that you and your loved ones have shared with your car….They have helped you through the claim process….They have been yelled at, but they have also consoled you when a loved one has passed.  They are the best in the business, and I am proud to work with them. 

None of this would have been possible without you, our customer.  Regardless if you have a single vehicle policy with us or one with hundreds of cars we value your relationship the same.  We are honored and humbled to be your choice to insure your prized possession.  

I often remind customers that feel like we are just in the money-making business that the #1 reason insurance was created is to PAY COVERED CLAIMS!  We are fortunate to travel the country to many car shows throughout the year, and we hear your stories about how you were satisfied with the claims process.  We get no greater joy when we hear or read this.    

To our current, past and future customer, thank you!  The last 10 years have been amazing, and it is all because of YOU!
